Certifications & Compliance

eWaste Sydney (IT Ewaste Solutions) provides certified e-waste recycling and IT asset disposal services for businesses, government organisations, schools, healthcare providers and other commercial organisations across Sydney and Australia. Our e-waste recycling certifications support secure, environmentally responsible and auditable IT asset disposal.

In addition, our independently certified environmental, workplace safety and e-waste management systems support our operations, together with documented data sanitisation, chain-of-custody and reporting processes.

eWaste Sydney holds certification to AS/NZS 5377:2013, ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018.

ISO certifications issued by Global Compliance Certification (GCC), an independent certification body accredited by JAS-ANZ the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand. GCC publicly confirms its JAS-ANZ accreditation for management system certification.

AS/NZS 5377:2013 E-Waste Recycling Certification

eWaste Sydney is certified to AS/NZS 5377:2013 for the collection, storage, transport and treatment of end-of-life electrical and electronic equipment.

Certificate Number: 224-W-6

AS/NZS 5377 establishes requirements for the responsible management of electrical and electronic equipment throughout the collection and recycling process.

Therefore, our certification supports responsible practices across:

  • E-waste collection and transport
  • Secure storage and handling
  • Equipment assessment and reuse
  • Material recovery
  • Recycling and downstream processing
  • Environmental management
  • Traceability and reporting

As a result, businesses gain greater assurance that we manage retired electronic equipment through documented and responsible processes.

ISO 14001:2015 Certified Environmental Management System

eWaste Sydney is certified to ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management Systems.

Certificate Number: 224-E-2

ISO 14001 provides an internationally recognised framework for managing environmental responsibilities, identifying environmental risks and continually improving environmental performance.

In addition, our Environmental Management System covers areas including:

  • Responsible e-waste processing
  • Pollution prevention
  • Waste reduction
  • Resource recovery
  • Reuse and recycling
  • Environmental risk management
  • Legal and regulatory requirements
  • Environmental objectives and monitoring
  • Continual improvement

As a result, our ISO 14001 certification provides independent assurance that environmental management forms part of our structured business processes.

ISO 45001:2018 Certified Occupational Health & Safety Management System

eWaste Sydney is certified to ISO 45001:2018 Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems.

Certificate Number: 224-S-2

ISO 45001 provides an internationally recognised framework for managing workplace health and safety risks.

Our Occupational Health & Safety Management System applies to activities associated with the collection, transport, handling, storage and processing of electronic equipment.

Furthermore, our procedures address areas including:

  • Workplace hazard identification
  • Manual handling
  • Vehicle operations
  • Warehouse activities
  • Equipment handling
  • Contractor management
  • Incident management
  • Employee consultation and training
  • Continual improvement of workplace safety

Therefore, ISO 45001 certification provides independent assurance that we manage occupational health and safety risks through a structured management system.

Independent E-Waste and ISO Certification

eWaste Sydney’s ISO management system & AS/NZS 5377:2013 certifications are issued by Global Compliance Certification (GCC).

GCC is an independent Australian certification body accredited by JAS-ANZ – the Joint Accreditation System of Australia and New Zealand.

Accredited certification provides an additional level of assurance because the certification body itself is independently assessed for competence, impartiality and consistency.

In addition, we can provide copies of our current certificates for procurement, tender, compliance or audit purposes.

Secure Data Erasure with Blancco

Where appropriate, eWaste Sydney uses Blancco Drive Eraser for secure software-based data sanitisation.

Blancco Drive Eraser supports recognised sanitisation methods including NIST Clear and Purge, and each successful erasure can generate a digitally signed erasure report for audit purposes. Blancco states that Drive Eraser has been independently tested for NIST SP 800-88 compliance.

Depending on the agreed service, we can provide reporting that includes:

  • Device serial number
  • Drive serial number
  • Erasure method
  • Erasure result
  • Date of erasure
  • Blancco erasure report
  • Certificate of Data Destruction

As a result, organisations receive documented evidence showing how we processed each data-bearing device according to the agreed sanitisation method.

NIST SP 800-88 Rev. 2 Data Sanitisation

Our data sanitisation processes can be performed using methods aligned with NIST Special Publication 800-88 Rev. 2 – Guidelines for Media Sanitization.

NIST published Revision 2 in September 2025, replacing the previous Revision 1 guidance.

Where compatible storage media can be securely sanitised, software-based erasure may be used.

  • Media type
  • Device condition
  • Data sensitivity
  • Reuse requirements
  • Client security policy
  • Required sanitisation level

Where appropriate, we use software-based erasure to securely sanitise compatible storage media.

However, if media is faulty, inaccessible, damaged or unsuitable for software-based sanitisation, we can arrange physical destruction or another approved destruction method.

Physical Data Destruction

Physical data destruction is available for damaged, failed, inaccessible or high-risk storage media where software-based sanitisation is not suitable or where destruction is specifically required by the client.

Depending on project requirements, available methods can include:

  • Hard drive destruction
  • SSD destruction
  • Degaussing
  • Media shredding

Where required, approved specialist partners can also perform physical destruction on our behalf.

In addition, we can provide serialised destruction reporting and Certificates of Data Destruction according to the agreed project requirements.

Secure Chain of Custody

Data security begins from the point assets are collected.

Our chain-of-custody processes can include:

  • Scheduled collection
  • Asset identification
  • Serial number capture
  • Secure transport
  • GPS-tracked collection vehicles
  • CCTV-monitored transport
  • Controlled warehouse access
  • Asset auditing
  • Data sanitisation or physical destruction
  • Recycling or approved reuse
  • Final reporting and certification

These controls help organisations maintain visibility and accountability for retired IT equipment throughout the IT asset disposal process.

Certificates and Reporting

Depending on the services selected, eWaste Sydney can provide:

  • Certificate of Recycling
  • Certificate of Data Destruction
  • Blancco erasure reports
  • Asset audit reports
  • Device serial number reports
  • Drive serial number reports
  • Recycling weight summaries
  • Environmental impact reporting
  • Estimated CO₂ savings
  • Asset recovery and buyback reports

These records can support internal audits, information security processes, asset disposal records, procurement requirements, environmental reporting and ESG programs.

Reuse and Circular Economy Approach

eWaste Sydney follows a reuse-first approach wherever appropriate.

Equipment with remaining useful life may be assessed for refurbishment and reuse, subject to client requirements and successful data sanitisation.

However, when equipment cannot be reused, we process it through responsible recycling channels to recover materials and minimise waste sent to landfill.

This approach supports resource recovery and helps extend the useful life of IT equipment where practical.

Supporting Business Compliance

Our e-waste recycling and IT asset disposal services can support organisations managing requirements associated with:

  • Environmental management
  • Information security
  • IT asset disposal policies
  • Data sanitisation
  • ESG and sustainability reporting
  • Risk management
  • Procurement requirements
  • Internal and external audits
  • Corporate governance

Every organisation has different security, compliance and reporting requirements. Our team can discuss the required collection, processing, data destruction and documentation before the project begins.

Choosing an ITAD Provider

Certifications form one part of assessing an IT asset disposal partner. Our guide to choosing an ITAD provider in Australia explains how to review certificate scopes, security controls, chain of custody, reporting, fees and downstream processing.
