Healthcare IT & Medical Equipment Recycling – National Healthcare Provider
Since June 2023, eWaste Sydney has supported a national healthcare provider with the ongoing collection and responsible recycling of retired medical and electronic equipment across Australia.
The project covers more than 30 sites across NSW, ACT, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Western Australia, requiring reliable logistics, consistent processing and timely reporting across multiple locations.
Project Overview
Industry: Healthcare
Service: Medical equipment and e-waste recycling
Coverage: NSW, ACT, VIC, QLD, SA and WA
Sites: 30+ locations
Project commencement: June 2023
Collections completed: 53+
Equipment processed: Approximately 6 tonnes
Typical turnaround time: Approximately 3 business days
Status: Ongoing
The Challenge
Healthcare organisations regularly replace medical devices, IT equipment and electronic assets across multiple facilities.
Managing these assets across a national network requires a coordinated process that can handle collections from different locations while maintaining consistent service standards and clear reporting.
For this project, the client required an ongoing recycling solution capable of supporting more than 30 sites across six Australian states and territories.
The service also needed to accommodate collections of varying sizes while maintaining a fast and reliable turnaround.
Our Solution
eWaste Sydney established an ongoing collection and processing program tailored to the client’s national site network.
Our team coordinates collections from participating locations across:
- New South Wales
- Australian Capital Territory
- Victoria
- Queensland
- South Australia
- Western Australia
Once collected, equipment is transported for assessment, processing and responsible recycling.
Where equipment or components have further usable value, our reuse-first approach helps maximise recovery before materials enter the recycling stream.
53+ Collections Since June 2023
Since the project began in June 2023, eWaste Sydney has completed more than 53 collections across the client’s national network.
The ongoing nature of the project allows individual sites to arrange collections as retired equipment becomes available rather than waiting for a single large disposal event.
This provides the client with a practical and scalable solution for managing equipment replacement across multiple locations.
Approximately 6 Tonnes of Medical Equipment Processed
To date, the program has processed approximately 6 tonnes of retired medical devices and electronic equipment.
By directing these assets through responsible reuse and recycling channels, the project supports resource recovery and reduces the volume of electronic equipment entering general waste streams.
Approximately 3-Business-Day Turnaround
Operational responsiveness is particularly important for healthcare facilities where retired equipment can occupy valuable storage and operational space.
For this ongoing program, eWaste Sydney maintains an approximate three-business-day turnaround for the agreed service process.
This helps participating locations move retired equipment through the disposal process efficiently while maintaining a consistent national service.
Supporting Multi-Site Healthcare Organisations
This project demonstrates eWaste Sydney’s ability to manage ongoing e-waste and medical equipment recycling programs across geographically distributed organisations.
Our services can support:
- Hospitals and healthcare facilities
- Medical centres
- Pathology and laboratory operations
- Pharmaceutical organisations
- Medical technology companies
- National healthcare networks
- Multi-site corporate organisations
Services can be tailored to the equipment, collection frequency, reporting requirements and geographic footprint of each organisation.
Project Results
